Short Term Missions

We invite those who love Jesus and feel called to foreign mission work to come and be relational with the people we serve. We need all types of skills. Dentists, doctors, nurses, crafters, construction workers, teachers, Christian workers, photographers, those who love children, those with skills in drama and dance... you don't have to be an expert, just a willing worker. If you have a heart to serve, we will find a use for your talents. Visiting in homes and loving on the people here is a talent.  The length of group short term trips average 7-10 days but can be longer if you desire. Total expenses average $1,200 per person if you stay in a Leon hotel and includes airfare, in country transportation, food and water and hotel expenses. It would be somewhat less expensive if you stay in a hostel. Prices vary according to current airline rates, hotel rates, etc.

We also welcome young adults to come and serve long term for hands-on training in the mission field. In the youth dormitory on our mission property we can house young adults who stay less than a month for $15.00 per day, 1-3 months for $12.50 and more than 3 months for $10.00 per day. Groups of young people under 18 must be accompanied by adults over 25.

Nicaragua is a safe place to visit. We enjoy times of recreation at the beach and in Leon after our work in the villages. We also try to take our teams on trips to explore this beautiful country and build relationships. Mission teams help with the transportation of supplies and goods for the Nicaraguan people. You will have the time of your life and be changed, energized and blessed beyond measure! Many have gone home transformed by what God did in them during their stay here.

Preparations

Passport:  Get it early!

Innoculations: None required, but Tetanus, Hepatitus A shots recommended. Malaria prevention pills optional but also recommended. See the Health Department travel nurse for advice.

Luggage: Try to put all of your personal things in one small carry-on bag. Carry-on bag is not to exceed 40 pounds or 45 inches when you add the height, width and length. You can also have a purse, small backpack or briefcase in addition to the carry-on bag. We recommend a small backpack that you can also use in the village. You will only need very light clothing and it can be laundered for you for a small fee. So pack light!

We ask you to bring your supplies for any planned projects of your team and/or used clothing and other supplies for the Nicaraguan people we serve in check-in baggage. Trunks, duffel bags or sturdy cardboard boxes can be used.  Check with your airline for what is allowed, the dimensions and the weight restrictions.  Regulations are always changing and vary from airline to airline.

The prices of the local hostels in Leon are $6.00-10.00 per person each day. Local hotels are reasonable at about $25.00 per person and rooms are small, basic, clean and pleasant with air conditioning and fans in each room. Each room has a bath with towels and soap provided. There is a laundry room you can use to hand wash your clothes or have the local laundress wash them at a very low price. (Warning, they use soap with bleach and it can be hard on clothes. Only bring older clothes you don't care much about, but be sure to wear clothes that are attractive and fit!  The Nicaraguan people dress neatly.)
